Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
